Meet the dedicated experts behind DJM Consulting Hawai'i

Jacob Smith

With a background that bridges the gap between hard science and hands-on field exploration, Jacob offers a unique perspective on the volcanic landscapes of Hawai'i. As a partner/owner, he leverages over a decade of experience as a geologist and researcher to provide visitors with an unparalleled look at the island's active terrain. Jacob's journey began with a BA in Geology from the University of Hawai’i at Hilo, leading to extensive work as a field assistant for renowned experts like Dr. John P. Lockwood at Geohazards Consultants International. From conducting lunar analog field tests for NASA to serving as a laser spotter for the Subaru Telescope, how career has been defined by a deep technical understanding of earth and space sciences.
Jacob has contributed to the global understanding of volcanology through peer-reviewed publications and served as a safety officer and field assistant for major productions with the BBC and National Geographic.
